A blind shipment is a shipping term referring to a Bill of Lading wherein the paying customer has contracted with the carrier that shipper or consignee information is not given. Two separate bills of lading are prepared for a blind shipment. One showing the paying customers correct address information usually prepared by the shipper and one prepared by the paying customer showing the actual delivery address. This is the Bill of Lading the carrier presents upon delivery.
A shipment where the Bill To is neither the shipper or the receiver and they do not want either of these two parties to know where the shipment came from or where it is going to. The shipper would have a Bill of Lading showing it was going to the Bill To and a second bill of lading would be prepared by the Bill To showing them as the shipper and the address of the actual consignee.
A blind shipment is when a third party controls the movement of the freight but does not want the shipper or consignee to know the name of the other.
