Know Your Over-Dimensional Freight
When shipping large over-dimensional freight on flat-bed, many customers are not aware of the specific dimensional requirements. Below are a list of the key dimensions that must be taken into consideration when shipping via flat-bed:
- Any shipment over 8’6” wide is considered over width and requires special permits.
- Any shipment over 12’ wide needs an escort and permit.
- Maximum height for a regular flat-bed is 8’6” high.
- Over 8’6” high requires a step-deck up to 10’2”
- Over 10’2” a double drop deck is required up to 11’6”
- Anything over 11’6” requires a special permit. Special routes must be taken to avoid low bridges.
- Permits generally cost about $70 per U.S. State.
